Boron dipyrromethenes referred to as Bodipy or BDP are a class of dyes exhibiting intense absorption and emission within the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Synthesized by reactions of pyrroles with either alkyl or aryl aldehydes this class of compounds has seen applications as laser dyes, bioimaging agents, bioprobes, as well as a variety of non-biological applications such as light harvesting, photonic or optical materials.
This is a BDP dye with strong optoelectronic properties, high molar absorptivity and good quantum yield. Thiophene substituents have proven to be useful in developing p-type donor-acceptor polymeric materials.
